Delete your data

You can delete specific TripSynk data — a trip, an expense, a photo, a friend — without deleting your whole account. This page explains how to do that in the app, what gets removed, and what we may retain.

1. Overview

TripSynk (developed by TripSynk) gives you direct control over the data inside your account. You can delete individual trips, expenses, photos and friend links at any time from within the app — without losing your account.

2. Delete data inside the app

You can remove the following items directly in TripSynk:

  • Delete a trip: Trips tab → open a trip → tap the menu (top right) → Delete trip. Removes all expenses, photos and member references in that trip.
  • Delete an expense: Open the trip → tap an expense → Delete. Removes the expense and rebalances the trip ledger automatically.
  • Delete a photo: Open a trip album → tap a photo → Delete. The image is removed from storage.
  • Remove a friend: Friends tab → open a friend → Remove. Removes the friend link; shared trip records remain so balances stay accurate.
  • Edit your profile: Profile tab → edit your display name and profile photo, or remove your photo entirely.

In-app deletions take effect immediately. Backups containing the deleted data are purged within 90 days.

3. Delete data by email request

If you cannot delete an item in the app — for example you lost access to your phone, or you want bulk deletion of many trips at once — email contact@tripsynk.in with the subject line “Delete my TripSynk data” and include:

  • Full name as it appears on your TripSynk profile.
  • Phone number you used to sign up (including country code, e.g. +91 98765 43210).
  • What you want deleted— for example “all photos from my trips”, “all expenses in trip Goa Bash”, or “all my data except my profile”.

Once we receive your email and verify your identity, we will process the request within the timelines listed in Section 7.

4. Identity verification

Before we delete any data on your behalf, we verify that the request is coming from the rightful account owner — typically by replying with a one-time code sent to the phone number on file, or by asking you to confirm details only the owner would know. This protects you from unauthorized deletion requests.

If we cannot verify your identity, we will not delete the data and will let you know why.

5. What is deleted

When you delete an item — either in the app or via an email request — the following is removed:

  • The item itself (trip, expense, photo or friend link).
  • Any uploaded files associated with the item (e.g. receipt images, album photos).
  • References to the item in your personal activity history.
  • Balances derived from the item are recalculated automatically so trip and friend totals stay correct.

6. What is retained

Some information may be retained even after a partial deletion:

  • Shared trip records. If the trip has other members and you delete only your own contribution, the trip itself remains visible to the other members. Your contribution is anonymized.
  • Settled-up history. Past settlements between friends may be retained as an immutable record so the ledger remains auditable for everyone involved.
  • Aggregated analytics. Anonymous, non-identifying usage statistics may be retained to help us improve TripSynk.
  • Legal & fraud-prevention records. Limited information may be retained where required by law, accounting obligations, or to investigate fraud or abuse.
  • Encrypted backups containing the deleted data are rotated and purged within 90 days.

7. Timelines

  • In-app deletions: take effect immediately. Live data is updated for you and any affected trip members.
  • Email deletion requests: processed within 30 days of a verified request.
  • Encrypted backups: purged within 90 days of the deletion.
  • Legal/fraud records: retained only as long as required by applicable law.
